What to do if you find a bat at home: advice from KyivZoo scientists

🦇🦇🦇 Bat migration season has begun in Ukraine. So don’t be surprised by random “guests” in your home 😉

❗ ☝️ We remember that all types of Ukrainian bats are listed in the Red Book and are rare. Therefore, their preservation and protection is the preservation and protection of Ukrainian nature.

✅ Kyiv Zoo fruitfully cooperates with the Centers for Rescue and Rehabilitation of Bats. And our experts involved in this good deed give the following advice in case a bat visits your home:

If bats have flown into your home, please do not panic or be afraid, they will not harm you.

In no case do not try to hit the animal in flight. Try to turn off the light, open the window completely and direct the flight of bats in its direction with a cloth.

If it fails, wait until the animals calm down and stop flying. Put on some sticky construction gloves or grab a sticky cloth rag and carefully gather the bats into the cardboard box.

Do not use as a substrate fleece rags or other materials in which the bat can get entangled with its claws.

🌃 Let the animals out of the box outside after dark.

If you are afraid of harming animals, then contact wild animal rescue specialists: the Ukrainian Bat Rehabilitation Center, the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group, etc.

🪟👌 And the best precaution is to install mosquito nets on windows and close windows and doors in rooms that are not in use.
