The Ukrainian Animal Protection Award – 2024

Congratulations to Mykhailo Rusin, Kyiv zoo scientist, this year’s laureate of The Ukrainian Animal Protection Award from UAnimals!

Mykhailo came to the zoo in 2019 and immediately joined our Programs for the conservation and reintroduction of rare species. His inspiring programs for the restoration of colonies of gophers and hamsters of the Ukrainian Black Sea steppes have been going on for the 5th year. During this time, in particular, the European hamster completely destroyed by human activity in that area, was returned to nature in the Tarutyn Steppe.

We wish our colleague further success in the good deed of reviving Ukrainian nature!

☝️🥇 The Ukrainian Animal Protection Award is an award for people who selflessly save animals and take care of them. The award was founded by UAnimals and the inter-factional association “Humane Country” in 2023. In March 2024, the second award ceremony took place.

During the 2 years of existence of this award Kyiv Zoo employees have already become its laureates twice. So, last year, our leading biologist Serhii Grigoriev received an award for his constant work to save wild whooper swans.
