Summer home for new residents

🐱🐱 We are glad to announce the next stage of young caracals rescue that has been going on for almost a year 🙏

At the end of August 2022 these two little kittens were handed over to Kyiv Zoo by National Police. The unfortunate creatures also suffered from inhuman cruelty. During the examination it was found that the caracals are exhausted, lack attention, imbalance, signs of an infectious disease which was later confirmed by laboratory diagnostics. Their weight at the age of two months was only 270 g.

Given the condition of the kittens their rescue was entrusted to one of the best specialists of Kyiv Zoo zoologist with 52 years of experience, Tetyana Kachan, who during her time working at the zoo took out and fed 153 animals.

💚 The fight for little lives lasted two months. Feeding every 3 hours, massages and other physical procedures, tests and vaccinations, training exercises and development.

🍼 Their special cat diet gradually changed from special liquid mixes to rabbit meat, offal, chicken and beef. And the most favorite dish was turkey. Now the caracal eats about 1.5 kg of such meat delicacies per day 🥩

✔ Currently our “kittens” are already 1 year old and their weight is almost 15 kg. For wild animals that have survived the horrors of war and cruel treatment, the rehabilitation period can be several years. Even though our caracals look healthy and play actively, they still show mistrust of strangers and fear of loud noises. Therefore we kindly ask our visitors not to make noise and fuss so that the little hearts of these beautiful creatures finally thaw after the injuries they have suffered.

🥰  For the comfort of our “kittens” a two-level enclosure is equipped with hammocks, climbing frames, a viewing loft, various claws and toys.

🐾 You can see rescued caracals every day at their playground opposite the camel enclosure.

Come and get acquainted! 😽
