Spurred tortoises are back at the summer hacienda
Today the most famous tortoises of Ukraine – Uncle Sasha and Matilda have moved to their summer hacienda.
Before the tortoises came out we planted a whole meadow of different herbs in the enclosure which they eat with pleasure. They have at their disposal a new hiding cave with infrared heating lamps and a refreshing pool 💦
Spurred tortoises are herbivores. They feed on grass, hay, vegetables and fruits 🍎🥕🥬☘
Our 37-year-old Uncle Sasha eats up to 2 kg of feed per day and weighs 72 kg and 41-year-old Matilda eats up to 1.5 kg and weighs 48 kg.
☝️ We remind you that in 2020 for the first time in the history of Kyiv Zoo a pair of spurred tortoises had offspring – Kruglyk, Tsiatochka, Martin and Lola can be seen at the exhibition nearby 💚
