Spring Migration of Pink Flamingos
🦩🏞️ The largest flock of pink flamingos in Ukraine is returning to its summer lake habitats!
💚🌿 Now, two dozen of these magnificent representatives of Ukrainian fauna will add a splash of pink to the spring greenery of Kyiv Zoo. Prior to this migration, our staff has created new comfort zones for them, featuring grassy lawns, bushes, and sandy-clay beaches, as well as new nesting areas.
☝️💦 To ensure the birds’ comfort, we aimed to replicate the natural conditions of the Black Sea lagoons, with murky water where flamingos love to catch plankton, and clayey mud along the shore from which these striking birds build their nests.
🌍💟 In a week, the world will celebrate International Flamingo Day. Our flamingos will mark their seasonal migration with lively spring dances. Among their “signature” moves are lively stomping in the murky water while flapping their wings, as well as synchronized rhythmic turns and neck movements by the entire flock.
🍽️🥗 To fuel their dancing energy, we will, as always, prepare a special nutritious “Black Sea mix” for these birds, consisting of minced meat and fish, daphnia crustaceans, hamarus, ground dandelion leaves and lettuce, grain flour and vitamin and mineral additives.
🌞🌷 Come for vibrant emotions to Kyiv Zoo!
