Spring at Kyiv Zoo’s Red Breasted Goose Breeding Center
🌿🦆🪹 With the onset of spring, our rare red-listed red-breasted geese have a lot of work to do: cleaning their nesting boxes, forming pairs and protecting their families from outside “suitors.” The season of silence has begun – the time for laying eggs, incubating and raising fluffy ducklings 🐣
☝️🪶 The red-breasted goose is a striking bird listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Before the war, its total population across our territory was about 350 pairs. However, due to the bloody Russian invasion, they are now on the brink of extinction. The last Recovery Center remains at Kyiv Zoo, currently housing 25 specimens that have already formed pairs and begun nesting.
🙏💚 Increasing the population of red-breasted geese is an integral part of our larger mission to save Ukraine’s nature!
