October 4 – World Animal Day
The main purpose of zoos is to protect nature through education, science, recreation and information. In the conditions of racist aggression, the direction of rescuing animals from the affected regions of Ukraine has become especially relevant. War brings suffering to people and animals. Our human victims are measured in hundreds of thousands. And the number of dead animals cannot be counted! And the most defenseless is our wildlife. Therefore, programs for the reintroduction of species in our country are very important. And a big thank to all Ukrainian scientists and conservationists who continue to do their work and environmental projects!
The Center for the Reintroduction of Rare Species operates on a permanent basis in KyivZoo. The efforts of our scientists have been noted more than once by foreign colleagues, and recently National Geographic published a publication about our efforts to restore the European hamster in the Ukrainian Black Sea steppes:
World Animal Day is an occasion for humanity to think about how fragile and vulnerable the world of living things on our planet is. And we, for our part, will not stop our efforts to convey this to every person and continue to save wild animals!
