New home for rescued Nandu
☝️ Rescue and rehabilitation of animals has become one of the main directions of Kyiv Zoo activity today. Today, after a three-month rehabilitation, three Nandu birds rescued from the most affected areas of Sumy region, came to our natural enclosure.
🙏 Thanks to the work of volunteers, it was possible to transport birds from dangerous place to Kyiv Zoo. The treatment was successful, so we are moving on to the next stages of rehabilitation and socialization. In their new home, these large birds will live as in nature together with other South American neighbors – guanacos.
🏞️ For the maximum comfort of the residents, the enclosure has: rocky ridge with a waterfall, wooden logs, pond, sun shelter and weather shelter with straw mattresses. The entire territory of the aviary is covered with different types of soil and planted with green trees, bushes and juicy grass, which is a wonderful treat for both birds and ungulates 😊
💦🏜️ And all these South American residents like to take sand and water baths. So a pond with a sand mound is a great addition to their comfortable life.
💚 You can see rescued Nandas in the company of guanacos at the end of ungulates row near the capybara enclosure. Come and get acquainted!
