New exposition of owls of Ukraine at KyivZoo
🦉🏠 We are pleased to present the new exposition of owls of Ukraine, created by Kyiv Zoo specialists themselves. In a cozy corner near the chalk lake with flamingos and bison, we have established an aviary that houses five species of owls: the Eurasian owl, the long-eared owl, the long-tailed owl, the eagle owl, and the barn owl. Two of these species are particularly rare, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, and are part of a breeding and release program into the wild 🌿
☝️ Many of these birds were rescued and found shelter in the zoo.
✅🪵 The total area of the aviary is 180 square meters, with a height of approximately 5 meters. A comfortable natural environment has been recreated for the birds, suitable for their secretive lives: hiding hollows, branches and stumps of trees, feeding areas, perches, and bedding made of wood chips. Drinking fountains and bathing ponds have also been installed 💦
🙏 🪶 Owls are an important part of Ukraine’s ecosystem, and we are proud to contribute to their conservation and restoration!
