Birthday weekend of Kyiv Zoo lions

☝️🦁 The lion is one of Kyiv Zoo symbols, so it is not by chance that visitors are greeted at the entrance by the historical sculptural composition “Lions” by the famous Kyiv sculptor Yuriy Ruban.

1️⃣7️⃣🎂 And this weekend the African lions of Kyiv Zoo – Hercules, Viliya, Daryna, and Khrystyna – are celebrating their 17th birthday. This is a very respectable age for big cats and every day with them is responsible work, professional challenges and pleasant moments of daily work with animals.

👌❄️ For almost two decades of living in the zoo, the lions have perfectly adapted to the local climate. They have even grown a warm undercoat and are happy to walk at temperatures down to -10°C!

✅🐾 In order to constantly keep them in good shape, our specialists conduct various activities to enrich the environment. During such activities lions climb trees and logs, search for meat delicacies in caches, overcome specially created obstacles, gnaw hemp ropes and jute bags, disassemble boxes and straw stuffed animals.

🍽️🥩🎁 In honor of the 17th anniversary a special environmental enrichment will be arranged for our birthday people, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, January 24-25 at 12:00
