The Australian King Parrot inhabits the eastern regions of Australia, particularly in the states of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Its natural habitats include tropical and subtropical forests, eucalyptus woodlands, as well as urban parks and gardens.

The lifespan of the Australian King Parrot is up to 25 years in the wild and up to 30 years in captivity with proper care. Both males and females weigh between 230 and 300 grams. The body length reaches up to 45 cm, with a wingspan ranging from 45 to 50 cm.

Australian King Parrots are monogamous. During the breeding season, which lasts from September to January, the female lays 3–6 eggs in tree hollows. The incubation period lasts around 20 days, during which the female solely incubates the eggs, while the male provides food. Chicks fledge after 5–6 weeks. These parrots usually live in pairs or small groups. They are peaceful and easily adapt to humans, often visiting gardens in search of food.

Australian King Parrots are primarily herbivorous. Their diet consists of seeds, fruits (such as figs and berries), flower buds, and young leaves. Occasionally, they may consume small insects and larvae.

Alisterus scapularis evolved within the parrot family (Psittaculidae), which originated in Australia millions of years ago. The species adapted to forested environments, where it has thrived to the present day.

The Australian King Parrot has become a cultural icon in Australia, valued for its vibrant plumage and gentle temperament. Among Indigenous Australian art, this bird often symbolizes peace and harmony. Today, it is a popular pet among bird enthusiasts due to its striking appearance and calm disposition.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Australian King Parrot is classified as “Least Concern.” However, habitat destruction due to deforestation poses a significant threat to the species, as it relies on forested areas for nesting.
