Aftermath of the Overnight Attack
Yesterday as a result of a barbaric shelling of Kyiv, Kyiv Zoo was severely impacted.
In the aquaterrarium, several glass panels of the winter garden dome were shattered. Glass and frames fell onto the turtles and crocodiles, necessitating their urgent rescue and relocation to other enclosures. The glass also damaged the trees within the winter garden.
In the aviary windows were broken and the large dome of the winter garden suffered damage. Exotic plants were harmed, vines were torn down and flower pots were shattered. In the primate department windows were smashed and the roof was damaged.
The northern entrance group experienced the most destruction. The facade was compromised, with parts of decorative structures torn off, information screens shattered, six glass doors and two windows broken, and the doors of all three elevators bent on multiple floors, damaging their lifting mechanisms. The barrier was broken, and the entrance shutter was torn off, while the fire suppression and alarm systems were compromised, and parts of the video surveillance system were damaged. Service equipment was also battered by debris.
The hay storage facility had its facade panels broken, windows shattered, and the roof partially torn apart. Throughout the territory, the video surveillance and lighting systems suffered damage. The explosion wave and debris broke branches of the park’s trees and harmed the lawns.
Fortunately, none of the animals lost their lives. The staff, who monitor the animals around the clock, immediately came to their aid, ensuring that the animals are currently safe.
Efforts to address the aftermath of this brutal attack are ongoing. Access to the northern entrance group and parking is partially restricted, while the rest of the zoo continues to operate as usual.
