Offspringings in the European Bison (Wisent) Family

✅🌍 Our little Yukka is already part of the International European Bison (Wisent) Conservation Programme – a species that humanity once nearly lost forever❗ At the beginning of the 20th century, this species disappeared completely from the wild and survived only thanks to the many years of dedicated work carried out by zoos and other conservation institutions across different countries 🙏

🦬🌿 The young wisent is now busily exploring her habitat and gradually becoming acquainted with life in a large wisent herd. She has already started sampling the “grown-up” diet, although she still enjoys her mother’s milk 🍼

📍🏞️ You can meet Yukka in the hoofstock area at Kyiv Zoo. Come and meet her!

☝️The European Bison (Wisent) is the largest land mammal in Europe and one of the most successful examples of rare species recovery.

All newborn wisents are registered in the International Studbook and receive unique names. These names follow special rules that make it possible to identify the animal’s country and year of birth. The names of wisents born in Ukraine begin with the letters “UK.” That is why the youngest resident of Kyiv Zoo was given the name Yukka (UKka) 🇺🇦
